Return to Work Toolkit

The purpose of this toolkit is to support all doctors who have taken time out from clinical practice to return to work.

Doctors may take time out from clinical practice for a variety of reasons including parental leave, sickness, burnout, caring responsibilities, career breaks, to conduct research or to seek out additional clinical experience or training.

The toolkit provides:

  • Information and practical guidance for doctors considering or planning a period of absence from work.
  • Information and practical guidance for individuals preparing to return to work after a period of absence.
  • Information for Supervisors on supporting doctors to make a safe transition back to clinical work.
  • Guidance for Supervisors on the ideal framework for supporting all doctors planning and returning from an absence from work.
  • A template for setting up a local ‘Return to Work’ course.
  • It may also be helpful to refer to the RCOG Educational Supervisors toolkit.
