RCOG launches patient information resources in various languages

19 Apr 2024

The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), has today launched a series of patient information resources in a variety of different languages.

An integral part of the College’s work is to help women and girls access accurate information about their health through the publication of patient information resources. These resources explain medical conditions and care options for a range of different circumstances. While the College offers this information for free, using lay terms and accessible language, it currently only publishes information in English.

The new pilot includes a variety of different patient information resources from topics such as early miscarriage, preeclampsia and pelvic inflammatory disease. The resources will be made available in eleven different languages including Polish, Ukrainian, French and Punjabi.

Emma Crookes, Women's Network co-Vice Chair and lay member of the Patient Information Committee, explains: “The RCOG produces high quality evidence-based patient information to enable women, girls and those using obstetrics and gynaecology services to access accurate information about their health so they can make informed decisions. I am so pleased to see this pilot contributing to the College’s work to address some of the inequalities affecting the population and people I know. I am particularly pleased the College considered and included translations into Ukrainian in this pilot.”
Professor Jagbir Jhutti-Johal, Women's Network Member and lay member of the Patient Information Committee, commented: “I’m excited to see the launch of this pilot. The importance of providing patient information in a variety of languages that reflects the diverse population using them has become clear through research into inequalities in receiving and accessing care. This project is a perfect example of the College ensuring that women’s voices are heard.”
