Who we are
The British Society for Gynaecological Imaging (BSGI) was founded in 2007 by a small group of obstetricians and gynaecologists, a radiologist, a medical physicist and a radiographer, who were passionate about promoting high standards in the application of ultrasound in our specialty.
Since then, membership has continued to increase, with many established clinicians, trainees and allied health professionals joining the society and attending its annual scientific meeting and workshops.
What we do
The Society's principal focus is to promote excellence in ultrasound training and upskilling of established clinicians looking to continually develop their knowledge and ultrasound skills in the specialty. The Society is a firm believer in the multidisciplinary nature of our practice and encourages interaction between the disciplines to increase awareness of their varying and often complementary roles, promote good practices and learn from each other the art of ultrasound scanning and its relevance to clinical practice.
How we do this
The Society has introduced best practice guidance on undertaking gynaecological scans and a continuing professional development programme for its members, parts of which may be completed online.
In summary, the Society’s key objectives are to:
- Encourage the study and application of all formats of imaging (ultrasound, magnetic resonance, X-ray, computed tomography and other) in obstetrics and gynaecology
- Promote education and training through regular meetings, conferences and workshops
- Promote and provide multidisciplinary continuing professional development, both practical and web-based
- Promote professional standards in the specialty’s imaging-related practices
- Collaborate and interact with other societies that have similar interests in imaging
- Publish and disseminate knowledge emanating from the society’s activities
