British Society of Psychosomatic Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Andrology (BSPOGA)

Who we are

The British Society of Psychosomatic Obstetrics, Gynaecology & Andrology (BSPOGA), as its name suggests, is the only society with a name which literally means the interaction of mind (Greek, psyche) and body (Greek, soma) in women’s (obstetrics, gynaecology) and men’s (andrology) health.

BSPOGA is a multidisciplinary charity and its membership is open to any person over the age of 18 years, including members of the public. Current membership includes obstetricians and gynaecologists, general practitioners, psychiatrists, midwives, nurses, psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and students.

What we do

BSPOGA’s objective is to raise awareness and therefore encourage better understanding, a better knowledge base and improved management of the psychosocial, emotional and biological problems associated with pregnancy, birth and the reproductive health of women and men.

How we do this

We organise various educational events and members of BSPOGA aim to raise awareness of biopsychosocial issues in their place of work. We organise an annual scientific meeting plus regional study days, the most recent of which was organised with the RCOG on NICE Guideline 110: Pregnancy and Complex Social Factors.
