A new clinical decision support tool for the NHS and for women and pregnant people
Together we have developed an online clinical decision support tool: a web application, shared between maternity healthcare professionals and women and pregnant people, to help ensure everyone is offered the right care at the right time no matter where they live.
Together we are:
- working hard to ensure we meet our aims to the highest possible standard
- listening to our professional experts about how we can best support maternity care professionals to provide best practice and evidence-based care
- listening to our experts by experience, our dedicated Tommy’s Centre Women’s Advisory Group to ensure our activity and outputs are shaped by women’s voices every step of the way
Key factors in improving care
- Risk assessment:Improving prediction by replacing simple checklists
- Decision support: Improving decision support to reduce significant variation in practice
How the Tommy’s Pathway can help
Our Clinical Decision Support Tool has been co-designed and developed by healthcare professionals and women together, for healthcare professionals and women.
It uses algorithms that already validated for use in clinical care, and are clinical proven to offer a more accurate risk assessment during maternity care, in comparison to the traditional checklist approach.
Our device can help reduce burden on the maternity workforce, by providing context specific information and continuity of information and offering care recommendations that are personalised to each woman and pregnant person’s assessment and in line with national clinical guidelines. Our device also offers women and pregnant people the opportunity to engage with their care, and to ensure they are supported to make informed decisions about their maternity care.
Our device brings digital innovation to maternity care, reduces burden on the maternity workforce, offers personalised care for women and pregnant people and supports them to self-advocate throughout their maternity care.
The Tommy's clinical decision support tool has been developed by healthcare professionals and women together, for healthcare professionals and women, to:
- More accurately assess each woman and pregnant person’s risk of preterm birth and placental dysfunction
- Provide personalised care recommendations in line with national clinical guidelines
- Enable context specific care information to be accessible at a glance and continuity of information throughout pregnancy
- Provide clinical decision support to healthcare professionals
- Support women to make informed decisions about their care and to self-advocate for their choices throughout maternity care
