Lindsay Stewart Student Award

The RCOG, with the kind and generous support of the Lindsay Stewart Foundation, is pleased to offer up to £500 of funding to support two medical students’ electives in obstetrics and gynaecology. This award helps support medical students who wish to gain valuable clinical experience in the specialty. 

It provides an opportunity for medical students to develop their clinical skills and gain insights into a career in the specialty.

Mr. Lindsay Stewart, OBE, FRCS Ed (Hon), FRCOG (Hon) maintained a life-long association with the RCOG. He was an advocate for continuous quality improvement in healthcare services, he funded the establishment of Lindsay Stewart R&D Centre to promote quality improvement tools aimed at advancing standards of care in women’s health.

Winners are required to submit a short report within six months of completing their elective. The report should describe their experiences, key learnings, and how the placement has influenced their future career aspirations.

Prize

The award provides up to £500 to support costs associated with the elective placement.

Eligibility

This award is open to medical students wishing to pursue a career in obstetrics and gynaecology. Applicants are particularly encouraged to apply if their elective is in a low or middle income country (Bands B or C).

Assessment process

Applications will be assessed on:

  • The quality and feasibility of the proposed elective programme
  • Clearly defined objectives and expected benefits
  • Strength of the letter of support from the host institution

Conditions

Successful applicants must adhere to the following conditions:

  • The award must be used only for the purpose outlined in the original application
  • Travel must be completed within 12 months of the award being made
  • Retrospective applications will not be accepted
  • A short report should be submitted to RCOG within six weeks of a visit being completed
