Portfolio Pathway standards of assessment

Overview

The Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR) is the route to specialist registration for doctors who have not completed a GMC-approved programme but who are able to demonstrate that they have the knowledge, skills and experience (KSEs) required for practising as an eligible specialist in the United Kingdom.

Portfolio Pathway applications are assessed against the standards of knowledge, skills and experience (KSEs) that are required for practising as an eligible specialist in the United Kingdom (UK).

The outcome of a successful Portfolio Pathway application is to be added to the Specialist Register to work as a O&G Consultant in the UK. The Portfolio Pathway is governed by its own set of standards (KSEs). The Portfolio Pathway allows applicants to meet the curriculum’s key skills in a more personalised way and in line with their own clinical background and skills set.

For full information on evidence required for the Portfolio Pathway, please read the O&G Portfolio Pathway evidence guidance document.

Other resources

In 2023, we delivered several webinars regarding how we envisaged the new standards would work in practice. Please see a recording of one of the webinars below, which talks in detail about how to approach your application. (Please note, this was delivered prior to the transition but the information on approach still applies.)

Please also find detailed slides from a presentation we delivered in early 2024 below.
