Overview

Full day, hands-on programme promoting appropriate, safe and successful management of the second stage of labour.

Objectives

  • Safe and skilled clinical decision making in the second stage of labour
  • Proficiency in the performance of assisted vaginal birth for OA, OT and OP positions (non-rotational and rotational vacuum and forceps)
  • Techniques to minimise the complications of second stage caesarean section
  • Understand and use bedside ultrasound during labour
  • Be introduced to the OdonAssist, a new instrument for assisted vaginal birth

Overview

It is now known that a number of 3rd and 4th degree tears, collectively known as Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries (OASIs) are being missed by doctors and midwives or inadequately repaired resulting in anal incontinence.

The attendees of this workshop will become familiar with the new classification of OASIs and develop clinical skills in the techniques of accurate diagnosis. Using the anal sphincter animal model, techniques in repair of the internal and external sphincter will be taught hands-on. Prevention and management of subsequent pregnancy will also be discussed.

The interactive lectures and audiovisual material will provide tips and tricks to recognise and repair OASIs, and the hands-on workshop using cow anal sphincters will prepare the delegates for real-time in the delivery room.

Overview

This hands-on course provides practical training on obstetric ultrasound and fetal intervention procedures. Participants will gain knowledge and experience of correct techniques, available diagnostic tools and treatment modalities, to support parental counselling and clinical decision-making. Through practical ultrasound training and hands-on practice, this course aims to enhance participants’ confidence in performing ultrasound scans and fetal interventions.
