Out of hours working in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Obstetrics and Gynaecology is an acute specialty where care is provided to woman and their families 24 hours a day. In order to complete training and obtain a CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology a doctor must have undertaken work both in hours and training out of hours including overnight. When training less than full time, day-time working, on-call and out-of-hours duties will normally be undertaken on a basis pro rata to that worked by full-time trainees in the same grade and specialty. If there are exceptional circumstances, this must be agreed on a case by case basis with the school/deanery.
Doctors who feel they are unable to commit to out of hours work can of course consider the option of a career grade post, without on call commitments, where these are available.
