RCOG welcomes The Women’s Health Plan: A 10-year Vision for Women’s Health in Wales

10 Dec 2024

The NHS Executive in Wales has published The Women’s Health Plan for Wales. This plan is a 10-year vision (2025-2035) that outlines an NHS Wales approach to improving the health outcomes for women in Wales.

Dr Geeta Kumar, Vice President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and Women’s Services Lead at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, said:
“The College warmly welcomes the Women’s Health Plan for Wales and its commitments to supporting women’s health and wellbeing throughout their lives, improving access to care and health information, and increasing the focus on prevention.
“The RCOG’s ‘Waiting for a way forward’ report shows over 50,000 women in Wales are waiting for gynaecology care with painful and debilitating conditions like endometriosis, adenomyosis, prolapse and incontinence. We are therefore pleased to see gynaecological conditions rightly prioritised, alongside a strong focus on pelvic floor health and prevention of pelvic dysfunction.
“Healthy women are the cornerstone of healthy societies and the College has been calling for Women’s Health Plans to be implemented across the UK for several years. We must now see the necessary funding and cross-government commitment to move at pace to make this plan a reality in Wales."

The RCOG was pleased to feed into this important plan that will take a preventative, life-course approach to women’s health aligned to ‘A Healthier Wales’, Welsh Government’s plan for health and social care. The College is committed to working with the Welsh government as they implement these plans, championing the voice of our members, women and girls.
